My Internet Journey - And How It Can Benefit You...

Hello Friends!

Before deciding whether we're going to work together, you need to know exactly who you'll be dealing with. So rather than just post a few pictures of me leaning against a Lambo, or lifting a glass of champagne as I relax on a private jet, like many online ‘gurus’ do, I thought it would be more helpful and more authentic to recount my story here. Then you can decide whether I’m the right person to help you achieve your goals.

Actually, I don’t need a Lambo or a private jet to have a truly remarkable life. I'm now 41 years old and blessed with a wonderful family: the sweetest wife, who's also my best friend, 4 perfect kiddos (all under 4), and an awesome miniature weenie dog named Honey B. In addition, I run a successful online advertising agency and have been able to invite several good friends to come on board and join me in the business.

I’m also a part of a genuinely one-of-a-kind church body in Oak Lawn, Dallas, called The Upper Room. Because most important of all … I know the living God Jesus Christ! He’s my savior, He's my deliverer, and He's set the direction for my life. On this page, I'm going to focus on my background in the online business world, but if you’d like to learn more about my testimony in Jesus, you can check it out here (50 min video). You'll be amazed at how He plucked me from the fire and turned me into one of His kids.

So this is where I am today. But that hasn’t always been the case. So let me begin at the beginning…

My Journey Begins

It’s December 2005. Aged 23, I’m living with my father in San Antonio, TX, helping him run his pest control business. I’m attending a community college to knock out the introductory courses needed for a degree. But I have no real direction in my life and I’m drifting along.

Like many kids, I'd entertained the possibility of breaking into the music industry. But it remained more of a pleasant fantasy than a reality because I didn't take any serious steps to make it happen. OK, I’d been playing the electric guitar for several years (all shred guitar :D) and had high hopes of either starting a band or mixing as a DJ like Tiesto, Van Burren, and Paul Van Dyk. But I was never ready to put in the hard work I’d need to succeed in the music business.

Then, just one week into an html/css class, everything changed!  The realization that anyone could take their vision and turn it into a website for the entire world to see blew me away.  Suddenly, it opened up the possibility of building out the many ideas I wanted to turn into reality. In no time, I’d dropped out of school to explore the opportunities online.

I even took a second job at Fed Ex, working late shifts, so I could purchase the training materials I needed to improve my web skills. I learned how to code entire sites with html and css. I also mastered the basics of Photoshop since I knew I’d need more than just text on my sites – they’d need to be visually appealing as well.

I also picked up my first lead-generation techniques, principally SEO (search engine optimization), and devoured all the sales and marketing information I could get my hands on.

Over the next year, I spent virtually every dollar I earned – almost  $30,000- on training and 1-on-1 coaching. I reached out to two highly-skilled online business coaches, Jeremy Palmer and Jason Nyback, who helped me develop a more rounded view of online traffic.

There was a whole other world of paid traffic out there, but I knew I needed to master just one method.  And since SEO was all the rage at the time, that’s the direction I decided to take.

My First Website

I threw myself into it and put everything I’d learned about online business into a website called MadGuitarLicks.com. There, I showcased my guitar skills via short video lessons.  To get Google and Yahoo to rank me highly in their search results, I even gave the lessons for free!

It paid off. My site shot up to the number one position in Google for the keywords “guitar licks” and “free guitar lessons.” Every day, those two keywords were driving nearly 400 people to my site.

So, I was getting traffic and had built my credibility, but I still needed to figure out how to monetize the site. The strategy I devised was deceptively simple. I reviewed several online guitar lesson courses and sold them as an affiliate. I placed strategic links to the reviews in the sidebar and after each video. And… it worked. In the first full year of operation, MadGuitarLicks made $129,000. For me, at that time, it was a massive achievement, and it was my very first site! I later sold it for $10k.

Over the next few years, I created over 30 sites just like MadGuitarLicks, with the help of several Filipino workers and a retired journalist. The company was bringing in around $500,000 a year. The margins were impressive, too, since I didn't have to pay for my traffic.

As long as the search engines kept giving me "free" traffic, I was golden.  What could possibly go wrong?

The Best-Laid Plans…

April 24th, 2012. Enter the "Penguin," one of Google’s periodic updates to its ranking algorithm. Unfortunately, this one instantly removed every one of my sites from the first page of the search results. And with little to no traffic, I lost 90% of my income overnight.

Of course, tears of frustration and rage followed– but you can’t argue with Google. I was forced to lay off my team and return to eating cereal and ramen. It wasn’t fun at the time, but it shook me out of my complacency and forced me to rethink.

The only "asset" I had left at that point was an email list I’d built in the web design niche that consisted of around 1,600 very active subscribers. They'd all come from the site a buddy and I had built to showcase tutorials for a popular Photoshop plugin called SiteGrinder that turned any .psd file into a fully functional website.

So, we continued building that site over the next 10 months. We must've made a grand total of $80k in revenue during that time. But for two online entrepreneurs, that just wasn't going to cut it. We shut up shop.

The following year was also pretty frustrating. I spent my time creating video courses and affiliate reviews to pitch to the SiteGrinder email list. But because every email I sent out was a pitch, even the minimal response soon fizzled out. People soon get bored with those kinds of emails, and most were probably deleted without ever being read. And so...no dice. I was flat broke and had exhausted all my money-making ideas. So I prayed about the next steps. and something genuinely AWESOME happened...I took a radically different approach and...

I Got A JOB!

Yep. But it wasn't just any job. I didn't want to abandon my dream of running a successful online business, and I knew the only reason I was broke was because of a lack of traffic. So, I took a leap and became a "media buyer."  I started working for a seasoned internet marketer (who shall remain nameless) as one of his personal traffic guys. He showed me the ropes, and over the next 2 years, I learned and mastered the art of paid traffic.

It took me at least six months to get the hang of it. At first, I was uncomfortable with the concept of buying data. I was spending his money and often lost it. But once I understood that I wasn't actually "losing" money for him, but rather "testing" and figuring out what worked and what didn't... THAT'S when the light bulb switched on! It took me a full two years working beside him (and spending a couple million of his dollars) to feel confident enough to branch out on my own once again.

Back On My Feet

After parting ways with my mentor, I started an advertising agency with a partner. We ran traffic as affiliates and for a few medium-sized companies in the cosmeceutical/nutraceutical/mortgage spaces.

Those eighteen months were a crucial confidence-building period for me, and I spent just over $2,000,000 in online ads while there. I learned invaluable lessons about hiring, managing, and firing employees, handling the finances, and guiding a company through the start-up phase. But when I look back, the thing I appreciate the most about my time building the agency was the confidence it gave me to DREAM BIGGER.

The Dream

After running that agency for two years, I decided that corporate life just wasn't for me. So yet again, I changed direction and left to work from home as an affiliate marketer. I've been operating from home for five years now and have spent another $40+ million in online advertising.

I love being home to spend time with my wonderful wife and babies.

My dream had always been to work for myself, make enough money to provide my family with a stress-free, privileged lifestyle, and help others achieve the same thing.

After all the ups and downs of my journey, I've reached the point where I'm super excited and honored to be in a position to teach you how traffic REALLY works on the internet.

That’s why I now focus my time on my premier Affiliate Mentorship program. It fulfills that part of my dream of giving back and helping others achieve the same level of financial freedom (and beyond) that I’ve achieved.

In Closing

Now you know my story. You know I don't have an MBA. I don't even have a degree. But I make more money in a single month than most college graduates make in three years.

And it's all because of traffic. I've spent years mastering the art (and science) of digital marketing -specifically how to generate traffic, leads, and sales.

Most traffic guys keep their tactics close to their chests, but I'm giving them all to you. Nothing is withheld. No stone is left unturned. No question will go unanswered. I'm using my knowledge to teach you the EXACT traffic methods and strategies I use-  so you, too, can fulfill your dream of financial freedom.

If you want to see how the big boys drive traffic to the tune of MILLIONS in profits, then you're in the right place. Head over to the training to get started.
